After a five-year hiatus from live performance, Cyn returned to the stage on January 15, 2025, transforming Mercury Lounge into an intimate celebration that felt more like a homecoming than a comeback. The Lower East Side venue provided the perfect setting for an artist whose authenticity shines brightest in close quarters.
Setting the Stage
The evening began with Annika Rose making her New York City debut, performing selections from her latest release “Riverside Drive.” Rose proved to be an ideal opener, getting the crowd moving with her energetic set and winning over new fans with a lively cover of Taylor Swift’s “State of Grace.”
A Return Worth Waiting For
If there were any concerns about rust after a five-year break from performing, Cyn dispelled them immediately. Opening with “I Don’t Care,” she commanded the stage with an infectious energy that suggested she’d never left. Backed by Los Angeles musicians Valerie Franco on drums and Ray Libby on guitar, she delivered a set that balanced her signature upbeat numbers with more introspective material.
Life Changes, Evolving
The past five years have brought significant changes to Cyn’s life – marriage and motherhood chief among them. These experiences informed some of the evening’s most poignant moments, with several songs written about and for her family drawing emotional responses from the crowd. Yet she maintained the perfect balance, keeping the energy high with tracks like “Drinks” and closing with her latest release, “The Smiths.”
Mercury Lounge’s intimate setting allowed fans to connect with not just the music but the person behind it, offering a rare glimpse into both Cyn’s artistic evolution and personal growth during her time away from the stage.
Catch Cyn in concert for a hometown show next at The Troubador in LA on January 23rd!
